S/V Surface Interval is a 2005 Outbound Yachts 44-foot sailboat, hull # 19, built by the Hansheng Yacht Building Company in Xiamen, China (the same yard also builds Passport and Kraken Yachts). The first Outbound sailboat was built in 2000, and was designed by the late, famous racing boat designer, Carl Schumacher. Hull # 19 was initially located on the U.S. East Coast. We believe it was delivered and commissioned in the Maryland or South Carolina area where its solar arch from Kato Marine was installed in 2005. The boat cruised the East Coast, Bahamas, and Caribbean until 2013, where it was sold to a couple from Seattle who trucked the boat over land to Seattle. Those owners refit it over a few years, and set out on a multi-year cruise down to Mexico, across the Pacific to the Marquesas, up to Hawaii, and back to Seattle. It sold in late 2018 and was used for shorter cruising around the Puget Sound. We purchased it from those owners in the fall of 2022, making us the 4th owners of the boat (as far as we know).
Upon our purchase of the boat in the fall of 2022, we began a 2-year refit process to bring the boat back to offshore condition and to add new functionality to support our lifestyle and cruising plans.
