The final countdown!

We are in our final days at the dock in Seattle. Assuming all goes well this week, we plan to depart on June 30! This has been years in the making, and it’s exciting and nerve-racking to know the day is coming so soon!

We continued working and having fun on our shakedown cruise, including a nice dive in Princess Bay, off Portland Island, Canada. It was our first dive off the boat and it was so easy to gear up and jump in – no more lugging gear to and from cars or along rocky beaches! I didn’t take any pictures while diving because I was testing out all new dive gear and didn’t want to be overloaded with tasks. I will definitely take and share pictures on future dives. The underwater visibility was decent. We could see at least 15 feet away. The wildlife was great! We saw sea urchins as big as our heads and the largest clown nudibranchs I’ve ever seen. We swam around bull kelp and observed hundreds of shrimp, multiple sea stars, dozens of burrowing sea cucumbers, and the occasional rockfish, goby, and greenling. I can’t wait to explore more underwater spots as we set off cruising.

Projects are coming along nicely, though we still have a long “to do” list. I’m happy to report that our watermaker is working!!! It took a fair amount of troubleshooting and rebuilding, but we have it up and running. Our TDS (total dissolved solids) were 110 ppm…not too bad…thanks Puget Sound! We completed installation of all of our solar panels. I’m looking forward to unplugging from shore power to see what they can do. We also finally set up our tank racks on the deck so our scuba tanks are secure and ready for use. Another exciting step forward was picking up our compressor today. Installing it and getting it up and running is the new big project. We look forward to many years of filling our own scuba tanks. As we continue working through the final items on our current project list, we’re also squeezing in time to see a few friends, eat at our favorite Seattle restaurants, and do a few fun activities around town.

I almost can’t believe we’re setting sail for the world this coming weekend. We’ve been talking about it for so long, and now it’s happening!
